Robert E. Lee baseball coach James Boxley achieved his 350th career win with his team clinching a tie for third place in District 11-6A by defeating John Tyler 17-0 on Friday at Mike Carter Field.

The Red Raiders (11-16-1) clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday but needed a victory coupled with a loss by North Mesquite to create a third-place tie at 8-6. The Stallions were defeated 14-2 by Rockwall.

This means REL and North Mesquite will meet in a playoff to decide the district’s third seed for the playoffs at 11 a.m. Saturday at Copeland Field in Mesquite.

John Tyler completed its season at 0-14 in district and 2-22 overall.

REL’s Zach Fernandez allowed one hit in 3 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts. Rhett Parker doubled, tripled and drove in four runs with Fernandez, Chandler Cooper and Alexis Barrera finishing with 2 RBIs apiece.
