HS Baseball/Softball Rdp: Robert E. Lee captures win at North Mesquite

MESQUITE - Bradley Rippy struck out seven and Trevor Doke had two hits and scored two runs to lead Robert E. Lee past North Mesquite 7-2 Tuesday at Copeland Field.

The victory raised REL’s District 11-6A record to 6-5 while North Mesquite dropped to 7-4. The same two teams meet again on Friday at 7 p.m. at Mike Carter Field. A win for Lee would leave the teams tied for third place in the standings.

The Red Raiders broke open a 2-2 score with two runs in the fifth when Doke lifted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Matthew Hittle. The throw got away from the catcher, enabling David Randall to also score.

REL tacked on three more runs in the top of the third with Cade Keener singling home Nate Dial after Will Cook scored on an error. Zach Fernandez hit a sac fly to drive in Doke for the 7-2 lead.

Rippy reached his pitch limit in the seventh with Tully Greer entering with one out. He gave up a two-out walk, but the game was brought to an abrupt end when catcher Keener picked off the baserunner at first.
