Grace picks up key doubleheader sweep
Grace Community won both ends of its doubleheader on Tuesday night to begin the TAPPS 2-4A district tournament. The girls beat Dallas Parish Episcopal 29-20 and the boys defeated Dallas Shelton in the second game of the night 57-45.
Trevor Gunter had a strong night netting 18 points to lead the Cougars while Verlo Levels finished with 14.
After a 12-12 first quarter, Grace (15-13) went on an 18-9 run in the second to help stretch the gap going into halftime. Gunter scored 10 of his 18 in the second quarter.
The Chargers (12-16) were led by Michael Loewinsohn, who finished the night with 17, including three baskets from beyond the arc.
In the first game of the night, the Lady Cougars (11-16) were led by Catherine Rook and Parker Daughtry, who both finished the night with eight points.
The leading scorer for Parish Episcopal (5-14) was Rachel Kinser, who scored seven.
The TAPPS 2-4A district tournament continues Friday evening with both Grace teams back in action versus Carrollton Prince of Peace. Both games will be held at Whitehouse High School with the girls’ game beginning at 6:00 p.m., and the boys tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
