Tyler Junior College and Kilgore College renew their rivalry on the basketball court tonight in Kilgore.

The Region XIV doubleheader at Masters Gymnasium is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the women’s game, followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.

Both the Apache Ladies (10-12, 3-6 Region XIV) and the Lady Rangers (9-8, 4-5) are in desperate need of a win.

In the men’s game, both TJC (18-4, 9-3) and Kilgore (18-4, 8-4) are in the hunt for not only the top spot in the North Division but also the entire conference. Navarro (18-5) leads at 10-2.

The Apaches have won four straight against the Rangers, including a 3-0 sweep last year. The last time Kilgore won was 70-69 on Jan. 8, 2011.

The Rangers are ranked No. 23 in the latest NJCAA national poll, while TJC is just outside the top 25 at No. 27.

Also today, the TJC baseball team (3-0) is playing against Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, La. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

The TJC basketball teams are in action Saturday, traveling to Athens to meet Trinity Valley Community College. The women play at 4 p.m., followed by the men at 6 p.m.

At about 4:45 p.m. (halftime of the women’s game), TVCC will dedicate the Cardinal Gym court to longtime coach Leon “Red” Spencer.
