HS Hoops Roundup, Jan. 25: Chapel Hill moves to 8-0 in 16-3A

NEW CHAPEL HILL — Chapel Hill stayed unbeaten in District 16-3A boys basketball with a 73-43 win over Gilmer on Friday at Bulldog Gym.

The Bulldogs moved to 8-0 in district and 18-7 overall. Michael Harris led the way with 18 points, while Keilon Moore added 17.

In the first game, Gilmer edged the Lady Bulldogs, 44-38.

Along with Harris and Moore, Julius Hill added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

“We had a good first quarter,” CH coach Robert Sampson said. “We came out with lots of energy but we cooled off in the second quarter, and that was frustrating.

“Michael Harris had a good night. Also, (DJ) Sammons had a strong game; and DD Mumphrey played well defensively.”

Sampson also complimented Gilmer’s Pat Finch, who had 21 points.

In the girls game, Jasmin Jones hit for 24 points to pace the Lady Buckeyes. Chapel Hill was led by D’Errica Campbell and Shay Ross, who each had 12 points.
