Kilgore beats No. 25 Bullard, 51-41

KILGORE — The Kilgore Bulldogs and Bullard Panthers split a District 16-3A doubleheader Friday night at Bulldog Gymnasium as both teams avenged earlier league losses.

The 25th-ranked Lady Panthers were outlasted in the opener, 51-41, for their first league loss, as Kilgore received 25 points from Tori Burks.

In the finale, the Panthers held Kilgore to single digits in every quarter en route to a 30-23 win over the Bulldogs to keep Bullard’s playoff hopes alive.

Bullard will entertain Gladewater on Tuesday night in another district encounter. Rusk will travel to play the Bulldogs on Tuesday night with both games set for 7 p.m.

GIRLS

Kilgore 51, Bullard 41

Bridgette Taylor scored 13 of her team-high 15 points in the first three quarters as Bullard took a 23-20 lead at the half, and held a 35-30 advantage going into the last period.

Burks then heated up with eight points and Kilgore outscored Bullard 21-6 in the final eight minutes.

The Lady Panthers fell to 8-1 in league play while Kilgore improved to 7-2.

BOYS

Bullard 30, Kilgore 23

The boys game stayed close throughout as the teams virtually swapped out baskets in the low-scoring affair.

“We didn’t really play slow-down that much as we just worked for good shots,” Bullard head coach Shane Chambless said. “The slowdown was we came out in our zone on defense and they just kept passing the ball around, and we took advantage of a few turnovers they made also.

“Chandler (Clark) hit a couple of threes that were really timely and Landon did a great job of running the offense and played some great defense.”

Bullard point guard Landon Beckham was the only player in double digits to lead to the win with 12 points. Clark hit two 3-pointers in the game at crucial times and finished with eight points in the win.

Bullard post Scott Lowrie scored four points but grabbed eight rebounds for the Panthers.

The Panthers (4-3 in league play) return home Tuesday night to play Gladewater. Kilgore fell to 5-3 in district.
