NEW LONDON — Both Frankston basketball teams made second-half comebacks, but only the Indians were rewarded with a win.

The Maidens trailed 28-11 at halftime to eventually fall short, 44-37. Meanwhile the Frankston boys scored the first five points of the fourth period to pull in front of West Rusk and the Indians held on from there to win 49-45.

Girls

Lady Raider Tierney Reddic scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the first half while teammate Malorie Herron drained a 3-pointer with less than a minute to play in the opening quarter to give the home side a 15-4 lead.

Reddic scored seven straight for West Rusk in the second period to make it 28-11 at halftime.

Frankston’s Lateesha Gray (12) got the Maidens going in the third with Mallory Winkler knocking down two treys to close the gap, but neither team could find its offense in the fourth with West Rusk doing enough to close out a seven-point victory.

The Maidens next travel to play at Hawkins at 6 p.m. Tuesday while West Rusk hosts Sabine at 6 p.m. Friday.

Boys

The Indians (6-1) got 25 points from Corey Warren and some clutch free-throws from freshman Kendrick Rogers to seal their win.

West Rusk spread out its scoring as Trell VanZandt, Tyrice Ross, and Tristen Edwards scored 11-points apiece. The Raiders led 37-36 going into the final period, but were overtaken after that.

Frankston will travel to play another district encounter on Tuesday in Hawkins with a 7 p.m. tip-off scheduled. West Rusk will play host to Sabine at 7 p.m. Friday.
