ALPINE â€” UT Tyler swept Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference basketball action Wednesday at the Gallego Center.
The Patriot women kicked off the doubleheader with a 91-61 victory, while the men completed it with a 70-47 win.
The Patriots raced out to a 51-27 halftime lead and never looked back, improving to 6-3 on the season and 3-2 in the ASC.
Brittany King led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Sheâ€™Cara Humphrey contributed 13 points and eight boards. Mariah Wells and Breann McMillan also scored in double figures for UT Tyler, ending the night with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Nicole Murdock scored 19 points to lead Sul Ross State, which fell to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in ASC play.
Unlike the women, the men trailed by one point at the break before turning it on and outscoring Sul Ross State 46-22 in the second half to make it a lopsided outcome.
Billy Hopson finished with 15 points to lead the Patriots in scoring, while teammate Darren Houliston finished with 14 points and eight boards in 31 minutes of action.
The victory kept UT Tyler (8-1 on the season) unbeaten in the ASC at 5-0, while Sul Ross State fell to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Both UT Tyler teams return to action Dec. 29 on the road. The women will be at Northwood University in Cedar Hill and the men will play at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
