WAXAHACHIE â€” Texas College claimed first place in the Red River Athletic Conference to themselves, beating Southwestern Assemblies of God 71-58 on the road Monday.
Wendell Maye led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Steers, who improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the RRAC. Jamal Robertson scored 16 points and Titus Stevenson tossed in 14 points and eight rebounds for the Steers.
The Lady Steers lost a close game to SAGU in the womenâ€™s contest, 79-76. The Lady Steers fell to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in conference.
The Steers shot 51 percent in the victory. TC continued its stellar defensive play, holding SAGU to 32 percent shooting from the field.
In the RRAC menâ€™s standings, only the Steers and Texas Wesleyan (7-1, 2-0) have yet to lose a league game. TC returns home Saturday to play host to the University of the Southwest (N.M.).
