Two-Step: Steers move to 2-0 with win over Philander Smith

Wendell Maye scored 32 points to lead the Texas College men to a 97-88 win over Philander Smith (Ark.) Friday at Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium.

The Steers improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Brandon Lee finished with a double double (11 points, 10 rebounds). Meanwhile three others Steers reached double figures scoring: Norman Stewart (15 points, seven rebounds), Kerry Jones (12 points, six rebounds) and Eddren McCain (11 points, five assits).

The Steers shot 52 percent form the field and held Philander to 38 percent shooting.

Philander Smith topped Texas College 66-49 in the women’s game.

Ashli Smith (11 points, 12 rebounds) led the Lady Steers (0-2) in the loss.

The Lady Steers and Steers play at Philander Smith next Saturday in a doubleheader set to start at 2 p.m. with the womens game.

The Texas College volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the season to Texas Wesleyan (3-0) on Friday and Southwestern Assemblies of God (3-0) on Saturday. TC closed the regular season 10-19 overall and 3-8 in the Red River Athletic Conference.
