The Tyler Junior College Apache baseball team opened up their home season in dominating fashion with a 15-0 win over the Jarvis Christian College JV on Monday afternoon at Mike Carter Field.
Six Apache pitchers combined for the three-hit shutout as TJC improves to 3-0 on the young season.
A big six-run first inning for the Apaches set the tempo of the game.
Apache starter Eric Polivka earned the win on the mound throwing the first three innings, striking out three and not allowing a hit.
“I was really pleased with the pitching; and we played some good defense with a big lead,” Doug Wren, TJC coach said. “We hit the ball really well today too and got some big hits with men in scoring position which is always what you want to see.”
Apache shortstop Jacob Soisson, of Jasper, hit a solid 3 for 5 with a double, while teammate Blaise Warrick went 2 of 5, with two runs scored and two RBIs. Richard Tordsen, Anthony Soriano, Cody Broussard and Luke Neely each had two hits apiece.
Neely’s RBI single topped off the six-run first inning. Sacrifice flies by Tordson and Derek Vogl plated runs earlier in the stanza.
Jarvis got singles from Malcolm Cepeda, Romero Rameriz and a ninth-inning double from Sean Coleman to account for their three.
The Apaches travel to Bossier City, La., to meet Bossier Parish Community College on Wednesday. The game has a 1 p.m. start.
