Steers swept by Science & Arts to start season

The University of Science and Arts (Okla.) swept two games from Texas College on the first day of the NAIA baseball season Friday.

The Steers allowed three runs in the final inning to fall 5-0 in the first game.

Three different players finished with two-hit games for USAO: Jared Coon (2 for 4, RBI, double), Zach Gonzales (2 for 4, RBI) and Brian Vigo (2 for 3, homer).

Frank Mora led TC with two hits in the first game.

Blake McMullen earned the win in a duel with Aldo Montoya, with both hurlers going the distance.

USAO plated three runs in the fifth to win the second game 4-1.

Coon went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead USAO.

Caleb Searcy hit a solo home run in the second for TC’s lone score of the day.

The teams meet in a doubleheader today starting at noon on the TC campus.
